Famous designer and incredible woman Maria Barros astonished me when we first met. Warm and engaging, mom of two, she makes being a modern successful woman look and sound easy. Let’s meet Maria Barros!
I have always liked houses: doll houses, furnishing, decorate my own room, drawing and painting… but it was not until I was 20 years old that I realized not every person has that same aptitude. Always thought that each one of us was born with that interest. It’s something I was born with.
I agree, in the sense that my personal style is the reflection of my own personality. I don’t remember, in any phase of my life, taking myself too seriously. I always had a great sense of humour regarding my personal choices and that becomes clear in ant through my own work.
It is when I realize that I make a difference in people’s lives that my profession gets a true meaning. I enjoy joining a project to improve every life aspect of my customer, and not only to solve his current aesthetical issues. A pretty and organized house can be an exceptional source of joy in a person’s life.
Waking up in a beautiful bedroom, preparing meals in a well-planned kitchen, getting to the end of the day in a cozy family living room… That’s all that makes a home happy.
I chose to do what I truly love and BUILT my whole LIFE based in LOVE…
For starters, I chose to do what I truly love and built my whole live based in love. It could have not happened this way… And I didn’t get my profession right at first, nor my husband. But I knew enough to understand I had to change. Redoing my choices in life was undoubtedly a huge step towards a happy life. Whenever something doesn’t feel right, I change it. And I have a great characteristic, which is not getting tired of neither situations nor people who make me happy. I don’t have this sort of inquietudes. I pray every day. I am very grateful and tend to cultivate my spiritual side. That is unquestionably my main source of joy.
My grandmother from my mother’s side was an incredible woman because despite physically passing away when I was only 8 years old, she lives in our memories and conversations up to the present day. She keeps being an inspiration, on the way she used her creative skills and for the light she still shines. Once upon a time I read somewhere that a person only truly dies once no one talks about him/her. Because of that and in that sense, she keeps living in our hearts.
I don’t think it is worth buying tons of clothes if we don’t take good care of ourselves. In that sense, my main investment is myself, my own health, my diet, my skin… That is my main rule. To feel good from the inside out. As for all the rest, once we feel good, (almost) everything will look good.
" I don't think it is WORTH buying tons of clothes if we don't take good care of OURSELVES. "
I only so rarely follow trends that I can’t even tell you what I am waiting for. I know… boring! But that is the absolute truth.
Being a mom is my main vocation in this life. It seems as if I was ready since ever for this role, for my kids, for all the poorly slept nights, all the joys and sorrows. It’s all part of it and I try to not give up on anything. I believe that I am the fondest and sweetest mom in the world but can turn into a general when necessary, too.
Clarinha thinks I have the best job in the world, as she not only loves decoration, but she understands as well that not every mother manages to have a career and a schedule for her kids like I do. I’ve been and always will be then one who takes them to and picks them from school every single day. Being a 13-year-old, she starts to understand that it is a blessing for all that it is that way. Salvador manifests way less this sort of rationality, but I like to believe that he too is proud of my profession.
Saint Barth is my top travel destination. Instead of going
discovering other places, when time comes to place a booking, I always return where I am truly happy. I travel with only a “carry-on” bag. Only when we travel to snowy places we’ll have dispatched luggage. We’re a very practical family regarding packing. Very little clothes (tunics that can be folded like a sheet of paper), a miniatures necessaire always ready, a pair of flip-flops (Havaianas) and some nude sandals.
I love the fact that our craftmanship is valued, especially for being so rich and beautiful.
At the worth of times, it is the small things that make us happy.
Because it is, right?!
Because I love to start a week and I love to go against the flow of posts of Monday-hate. I have very little tolerance for it, I can’t even explain. Makes me want to go and say… "Try changing your job".
Because I am grateful, each and every day. Living is a blessing.Shop Now
That’s me… ; )
It is only because I know that most people that follow me enjoy that kind of posts
Because there are times where my work and my life get mixed.
Relaxed chic, the way I like it
Because some days, I look around and feel that I truly am in paradise. Many of those days are actually here, in Cascais, where I have the privilege of living and working.
What is a "forever piece"?
It lives in our hearts. Maybe it doesn’t come out of the closet much, but we could never imagine letting it go. Sometimes we wear it a bit too much. It's often out of season. Maybe even out of fashion. It might be a jacket, a pair of shoes, or even a belt. A favorite from our 20's, jewelry inherited from grandma or a special bag that cost a mint. No matter what defines your forever piece, cherish it so much that you will be proud one day to present it to your daughter.
The forever piece lives on.
